Fairianne Edwards Dear Dee Alexander:
Thank you so much again for this incredible concert: we had a wonderful
time.
Your voice is particularly beautiful and moreover the way you use it is so
rich and inspiring!
When you sing, our minds leave the ground and travel far what stunned
me is that when you scat, your voice has so many colors and that you draw
real paintings with these colors. Then, when you have brought us so far
away that we have lost even the very notion of song with words, when we
actually don't have the notion that there could be words anymore
-because they have become useless in the wide landscape of your sounds- at
that very moment, clear, warm, supple, generous, so beautiful, your jazz
diva voice gently comes back with the text. When you go back on the theme
like that, it is as if a bird was coming back, or as if you were waking us
up gently.
The use you make of silences is excellent too: they are music. You guys
had a real group sound, the musical flesh was there, united. The bass
player is incredible.
Another thing I admired: when you sing love, not a second you have the
least mannerism, and though you are never gross; I mean you have power
with no brutality whatsoever and you have sensibility and softness with no mannerism or sentimentalism whatsoever, bravo! Always feeling and emotion
without superficiality and pretense. You are true, sincere, generous in
your art and really, it was awesome.
Your voice flows like a shining river, with no apparent effort. You use it
like an instrument.
My piano jazz teacher gave me hints to follow that path. I took piano
jazz lessons to accompany myself when I sing but my teacher does not train
singers. He thinks that to be able to use my voice like an instrument and
improve the variety of my scats, I need to work harder on my piano
choruses. Do you play piano or another instrument?
The songs you wrote are excellent.
Really you were blessed with an incredible talent and frankly, this
concert was like a dream come true to me.
Last but not least: some say jazz is dead but you are proving it is
definitively not dead with a jazz that sounds very actual!
Take care and sing, sing, sing!
Peace,
God bless you,
Fairianne Edwards

Marty Miser THIS BITTER EARTH..............Heard you for the first time on Sirius. What a total pleasure for a Saturday night, to make me recall all of the greats I've known, and add Dee Alexander . I'm a really old timer that grew up in Chicago when there was so much exposure to the legends of jazz and the friendliness to be able to converse one on one. I remember Dinah...................there's a hint with your style. But, I would honestly say that you bring an excitingly unique voice that will set new standards. Thanks for being here. I hope to see you in person. And , by the way, your pianist is fantastic.
Sophia Anastos Kindly add me to your email list.
I would like to know of upcoming perfomances, releases etc.
Thank you.

James Walker Jr CD Review:
At last !!!!!! Perhaps that could have been the title of Chicago's First Lady of Jazz's first complete studio CD, but Ms. Alexander settled on "Wild is the Wind." As Chicagoans are quite aware, this city's wind can blow oh so wild. When Dee blows, there a controlled calmness about the wind that emerges from her unique vocal chords. That's evident during any Dee appearance and at last Wednesday's CD release/birthday party she reminded the standing room only crowd (doors had to be locked shortly after 8pm turning away many disappointed fans) through her delivery that she's always calm and in control. She's soooooo smooth and relaxed with her delivery, and the second she takes the stage , one can see the confidence that she possesses like only a few of her peers.
The music began shortly after 8pm with her long standing band of bassist Harrison Bankhead, drummer Leon Joyce, Jr. and pianist Miguel De La Cerna warming up the audience with a nice selection which afforded each ensemble member ample room to stretch on extended solos. As the crowd anxiously awaited the arrival of "Her Majesty," poet Khari B ascended the stage and rendered an opening poem that acutally described and introduced Dee. What a unique way for the entree of Chicago's Rising Star.
Without uttering a spoken word, Dee made her way to the stage and immediately launched into her hour plus set with "Butterfly," one of four selections from this exceptional CD that Dee penned. On this number Dee used her instrument to produced those "scatting" and "chirping" sounds that she has become noted for. Also, both Miguel and Leon distinguished themselves with extended solos.

Annette Zambrano / Texas Eunice & Jimmy graced myself and my cousin, Erasmo last Sat.(2/14) when they brought us to your show. As then I thank you again for sharing your talents with us mear mortals, hearing your creations of sounds goes to prove Father God's existence. Captivated by your presence, style, personality you are indeed an Audible Angle. I thank you again for giving us all a celestial performance last Saturday night, Oh! and on a side note thank you for your pianist Michael (school girl heavy sigh / LOL) I anticipate your next show as I will return to Chicago over the next few months and will keep an eye out if you come to Texas.Blessings to you!
Dana To Whom It May Concern:
Last evening, Vermont Public Radio played Dee Alexander, an immensely talented singer who, for reasons which escape me, I was not familiar with. I immediately went to this website and played a sample called "Chimes". I researched the song but was unable to locate it on any of her CDs. Any help finding this song, if indeed it is recorded in CD format, would be sincerely appreciated. If it is not available, I still intend to purchase her other recordings. What vocal range and musicianship from her ensemble. Dee is tremendously gifted and uniquely talented .
Respectfully,
Dana
Saalik Ahmad Ziyad Dee, thank you for the cd. It is as amazing as I expected it to be! My favorite songs are Butterfly and You and I. Also great job last night at the showcase and Happy Belated Birthday. Keep up the good soul!
Jason Marck Hi Dee:
I’m so glad you enjoyed the interview. I had a blast doing it, as you’re such a great lady, and the CD is fantastic.
Rosemarie I listened to the CD on my way home last night. Just wanted to say that there are many artist here in the Chicago area I enjoy in person, but when it comes to their CD it's not the same. Can't make that statement for your new CD, its PHENOMENAL. I've downloaded already to my IPOD, but it on my BOSE system, and now the CD stays in my car. I'm promoting it to my friends, but won't let them download. You artist work too hard for what you get and I won't give it away. I enjoyed last night

Alison Zirn I'd love to hear of her upcoming performances in Chicago. My husband and I saw her 4 years ago at Hothouse on Valentine's Day and she was transcendant, luminous, superb, stirring -- no end of superlatives. I've since tried to see her whenever I can -- loved her Nina Simone show this past summer and will try to see her for the MLK/Obama tribute on the 20th and would love to know of her upcoming gigs. Thanks
